Current Exhibitions
In the exhibition "FLORA DANICA – The World's Wildest Porcelain," the history behind the iconic porcelain service is explored. Its creation is closely linked to the comprehensive book work Flora Danica (1761-1883), which represents the world’s most ambitious mapping of wild plants. This epic effort, spanning 122 years, resulted in detailed descriptions and beautiful copper engravings of 3,240 plant species. It was this prestigious project, aimed at collecting knowledge and utilizing the wild nature while also glorifying the absolute monarchy, that was displayed on porcelain around 1789.

Starting 21 June 2025, visitors to Koldinghus can experience the new exhibition Kongebarn (Royal Child). Here, children aged 5–11 are invited to play, explore and engage their senses as they journey through history in an exhibition where they themselves take centre stage. Kongebarn is created with the ambition to unite play, learning and immersion in a dynamic museum space, where the museum’s unique collection is conveyed through movement, sensory experiences and interaction. The exhibition puts children in the driver’s seat – here, it’s the adults who must bend down while the children take the lead and become experts in their own history. Through play and imagination, they get the chance to feel the spirit of history – quite literally – on their own bodies.
